If you have been to our office, you probably noticed that we are constantly diffusing essential oils. These oils provide health benefits that we don’t get from eating or other supplements. We diffuse essential oils every single day to help our customers feel relaxed at our offices. Have you ever tried using essential oils for your kids?

In all our years of dentistry, we have discovered the benefits of using oils for children. We use oils to help calm scared kids, help kids breathe, recover from surgery, and to help guard children by assisting their immune systems. So I created a list of oils we use the most in our office that we thought a parent would like to use throughout the stressful school year!

Oil 1: Lavender

Lavender has a lot of benefits. The main advantages are to reduce anxiousness and promotes peaceful sleep. For some parents, a light bulb just lit up because bedtime is such a difficult time. But not anymore! Diffuse some Lavender oil before bed, and your children will have an easier time falling asleep. If your child has had a bad day because they didn’t do very well on a test or had a stressful homework assignment, you can diffuse Lavender to help them calm down and relax. Lavender can also be used to help soothe skin irritations. It’s a popular oil from dOTERRA because everybody gets stressed and this is a peaceful aroma style oil that helps people feel comfortable and calm.

Oil 2: Breathe

Does your child have allergies or often get colds in the winter? Then Breathe is the oil for you! Breathe is a remarkable blend of multiple different oils that help maintain feelings of clear airways and easy breathing while fighting the effects of seasonal threats. If you enjoy camping or going on picnics, you can take the oil with you on the trip to help your child fight off allergies! Clear airways and unstuffed noses are incredibly important when your child wants to run around and play with friends. If your kid likes to be outside but has allergies or often gets cold, then this is the oil for you.

Oil 3: OnGuard

As I child it felt like I had a constant cold throughout the entire winter season. I always had a sore throat, stuffy nose, and a bad headache. It made going to school much more challenging, and I often would miss sports practices because I was at home in bed. Hopefully, your kid doesn’t have it as bad as I did, but if they do then OnGuard is the oil for you. It provides a natural and effective alternative for immune support. It is one of dOTERRA’s most popular oils because it also has an energizing and uplifting aroma that can help if you are feeling sluggish. With the cold seasons closing in, consider OnGuard to help your child have a better school year with protection against environmental threats.

Guidelines for Children

Dilution

A Child’s skin is thinner than an adult’s, so you need to dilute the oil before you apply it if you are not going to diffuse it. Your child also has a lower body mass than you do so if you apply full strength oil their bodies will absorb it differently than an adult which can be harmful.

If you decide you want to use a roller then the best place to apply, the oils are on the child’s feet. The skin on their feet thicker than other skin on their bodies and this will help with any sensitivity that they will feel.

Doterra also says if you want to dilute your own oils they recommend 1 drop of the essential oils and 4-5 drops of a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil.

DOETRRA Oils Go Through Extensive Tests

DOTERRA oils go through extensive testing and are CPTG certified, pure therapeutic grade. This means the oils have passed 5 different analytical methods to ensure they are pure and potent. DOTERRA does have some cautions when using the oils on children. IF using a citrus oil, the child’s skin may become more sensitive to sunlight or UV rays for up to 12 hours. Don’t use adult oils on children. Alway monitor your child when using oils. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and other sensitive areas. Remember to dilute. Follow Safety guidelines on the labels.
