Finding the love of your life is an incredible feeling. A sense of power that gives you a unique strength which makes you feel like you are indestructible and unstoppable as long as that person is by your side. You do everything together in a beautiful blaze of fire and passion that some people only dream of. Then a moment comes when time seems to stop. You hear nothing but the pounding sound inside your chest as you’re staring down at the man you love. Just the silence of you both at that moment, vulnerable, answering, a question that will change your life forever. A chance to spend the rest of your lives together.

Being in Utah, the month of August is a busy time for weddings! Chances are, if you are reading this, you are a bride to be probably wondering how our dental office can help you in getting married soon! While we can’t assist you with all the other stresses you are going through, something that we can help with is ensuring that your pearly whites are shining brightly in pictures that will last a lifetime!

It’s a scary thought, I know, but it’s also a gratifying reminder when things get difficult of how you felt on that day and why you work so hard for those you love. These pictures will be around your home and in your life for the rest of your time on earth. It’s why people spend thousands of dollars on different photographers to ensure they get the pictures that they want because that’s how important they are.

Our goal is to help you look at those pictures and have no regrets. We want your teeth to be as white as that beautiful dress you are wearing!

Here are the steps you need to ensure that you have the teeth you want and to make sure that they are healthy, so you don’t have any teeth fall out or cause any damage to yourself. Missing teeth are worse than yellow teeth for sure!

Step 1. Visit Your Dentist

You want to make sure that your teeth are healthy enough for the whitening treatment because if your teeth are not healthy enough, you can damage your tooth enamel.

Make sure you plan for this in advance because some whitening treatments can take a few weeks. If your teeth are not healthy enough, your dentist will have to recommend a treatment plan that can take anywhere from six months to a year. So make sure you get your consultation as quickly as you can.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If your teeth are not healthy enough do not do whitening treatments yourself! If you do, you risk the chances of losing teeth, receding gums, root canals, and discoloration of your teeth! This is not a joke I repeat this is NOT a joke! If you whiten your teeth and they are not healthy, your teeth will not even look good. Exposed roots won’t bleach, and you will have teeth with two different colors!

Step 2. Start the Treatment

If you have been cleared & cleaned by your dentist its time to choose the whitening treatment you want. There are a lot of different options to choose from. Anything from crest whitening strips, to tray whitening, to zoom. Ask your dentist what he thinks would be best for your particular situation. A professional option is always valued when it comes to your health.

*Some side effects of whitening treatments are sensitivity and slight pain which is completely normal and goes away a few days after you complete treatment.*

Step 3. Maintain Your Oral Health

It is important that you maintain your good oral hygiene habits at home. Make sure you are brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing. You went through all the work to ensure that your teeth are white, you don’t want to get a cavity or cause damage to your teeth by not taking care of them. Your teeth’s enamel is generally weaker after a whitening treatment so taking care of them is crucial. You want to get tooth paste with fluoride in it because fluoride will help strengthen your enamel.

Step 4. Foods To Avoid

There is an extensive list of foods to avoid after you do a whitening treatment. Most of the foods are staining foods.

Here is a list I created from personal exploration when I got whitening treatment.

– Coffee
– Wine
– Tea (darker tea stains worse)
– Soda
– Dark Chocolate
– Beets
– Blueberries

Remember, that when times get hard, and life feels difficult, the only thing that matters at the end of the day is love. It’s the people in your life that matter most and you should strive every day to treat that person like they are the most important person in your life, because they are.
